UpShift is an evidence-based program designed to engage with adolescents who are using substances. With UpShift, we are working closely with our school partners to change the way we approach disciplinary responses to youth substance use. Research has found that out-of-school-suspensions drive lower graduation rates and increase drop-out risk. UpShift connects students with a trained professional, to identify the root causes of their substance use, and identify strategies to reduce or quit.
The UpShift Program:
- Includes 2-3 individual counseling sessions
- Focuses mainly on alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use
- Involves parents/guardians in the process
If you are concerned that a student might be using substances, would like to refer them to this program, or to be connected to other resources, please contact Heather Tang at [email protected].
